USCIS announces new mail delivery process for receiving an I-551 stamp for lawful permanent residents.

Previously the Lawful permanent residents (LPR) had to call USCIS Contact Center and book an infopass appointment and visit the local field office to receive an Alien Documentation, Identification and Telecommunication (ADIT) stamp, also commonly known as I-551 stamp. Form I-551 stamp is issued as a evidence of status for LPRs when they do not have the Green Card or their Form I-90 Application to Replace Permanent Card is pending or Form I-751 Petition to Remove the Conditions on residence is pending or Form N-400, Application for Naturalization is pending adjudication and their Green Card and extension notice have expired. As per the new process when a lawful permanent resident contacts the USCIS Contact Center to request temporary evidence of status, an immigration services officer will first verify their identity, physical mailing address, and whether the address is capable of receiving UPS or FedEx express mail. If necessary, the officer will schedule an in-person appointment for the resident, otherwise, they will submit a request to the USCIS field office to issue the ADIT stamp. Following a review of the request, if an in-person appointment is not required, the USCIS field office will mail the applicant a Form I-94 along with the ADIT stamp and DHS seal, which will include a printed photo of the lawful permanent resident obtained from USCIS systems. Some lawful permanent residents will still need to appear in person at a USCIS field office to receive temporary evidence of their status, including those who have urgent needs, do not have a useable photo in USCIS systems, or whose address or identity cannot be confirmed.
